Local teachers receive grants
Four local teachers have been awarded McDonald’s MAC Grants from McDonald’s owner/operators Tom Locke and his son, Trey.
Receiving $500 grants were:
• Alexandria Bruno, Weir Middle School, for STEM learning through engineering design challenges, robotics, and inquiry-based science projects.
• Kent Howell, Indian Creek Middle School, electric pianos for general music class.
• Caitlin McClane, St. Joseph the Worker School, for middle school STEM in nature garden.
Receiving a $300 grant for history and geography games and supplies was Cheryl Meadows of Weir Middle School.
For the 30th consecutive year, MAC Grants are helping area middle school teachers Make Activities Count for their students. Since the program’s inception, McDonald’s restaurants have awarded more than $3.2 million dollars to local teachers to support hands-on learning activities in their classrooms.
“The MAC Grants program is one way we demonstrate our gratitude for the amazing teachers in this area,” explained Trey Locke. “MAC Grants helps teachers bring fresh energy to their classrooms and instill new generations of young students with the passion to learn.”
The program provides financial support so teachers can supplement regular classroom curriculums with activities that the school’s budget may not allow.
