Weirton Lions, American Legion to honor veterans
WEIRTON – The Weirton Lions Club and American Legion Post 10 are, once again, teaming up with the community to honor local active military and veterans through the annual Flags for Heroes program.
The organizations will display American flags at the Weirton Honor Roll War Memorial, located on Park Drive, during three holidays this year – Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day.
The program has been taking place in Weirton since 2021.
Community members will be able to sponsor an active military member or veteran with a donation to the Lions Club – members of which will place a tag on each flag displaying the person’s name, rank and what war or event they participated in. The tag will also display the sponsor’s name. The flags will be placed at the War Memorial site for several days surrounding the selected holidays.
Following Veterans Day, the flag tags will be given to the sponsors as a memorial of their participation.
Donations for first-time sponsors are $50, and $30 for returning sponsors. Applications are available from any Lion, or by calling Lion Bernice Pitcock at 304-797-8374. For more information, contact Pitcock or email bpit@comcast.net. Proceeds will benefit Weirton Lions Community projects.Mingo meetings scheduled
