Camera Club names April winners
WINTERSVILLE — The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club held its April competition Tuesday at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church in Wintersville. The category for the month was “E is for ——–“.
Those placing in this category included: Andy Tindor, first, John Hanish, second, and Gary Churella, third.
In the open category, the top finishers were Andy Tindor, first; Barb Momyer, second; and Lisa Carte, third.
For the special effect category there was a three-way tie for first place; among Jenny Riegler, Sharon Slokan and Sue Adey; Lisa Carte, second; and Karen Felix, third.
The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club welcomes anyone who has an interest in photography. Any type of camera is acceptable, including smart phones. Meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of each month beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Two Ridges Presbyterian Church in Wintersville.

Retired teachers to meet
TORONTO — The Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association will meet May 12 at the Riverview Global Methodist Church in Toronto. The business meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. Guest speakers will be June Logan, Ohio Retired Teachers Association liaison, and Bobbyjon Bauman from the Sycamore Youth Center.
Canned fruit or monetary donations can be made for the WEBA food bank.
Luncheon reservations are due May 2 to Gina Judy. Checks should be made to JCRTA.
Any current or retired teachers are invited to join JCRTA at any time.
Volunteer Day planned
WEIRTON — The Kiwanis Club of Weirton, Weir High School Key Club, Weirton Heights Rotary Club, Madonna High School Interact Club, Downtown Rotary Club and the Salvation Army Advisory Board will be working together to help the Salvation Army Thrift Store operated by the Salvation army Corps of Weirton.
Those organizations will be teaming up for a volunteer day, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 23.
Volunteers will be sorting through the back log of donations, hanging items for the store and baling excess items that have been donated but cannot fit into the store at this time or seasonal items that are not well suited for sale.
More volunteers will make it easier to get the jobs done, organizers explained.
Archaeologist to speak
WEIRTON — Archaeologist John Boilegh will speak at 11 a.m. May 2 at the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center.
He will discuss the East Steubenville site in Follansbee and what was found there. Attendees also will learn about the Panhandle archaic people.
This is a free event and refreshments will be served. The museum is located at 3149 Main. St.
