Students recognized by Brooke board

WELLSBURG — Several students were recognized during Monday’s meeting of the Brooke County Board of Education.

Among those celebrated by Superintendent Jeff Crook and board members were members of the Brooke High School Future Business Leaders of America, which was named the West Virginia Chapter of the Year.

The organization, under the direction of adviser Chad Haught, is the largest FBLA club in West Virginia with 175 members.

It claimed first place in the community service and local annual business report categories, and Haught was honored as the West Virginia adviser of the year.

Several individuals also received top honors in the state competition, including:

• Champions: Ryan Haught, advanced accounting; Charles McCoy and Alex Obeldobel, banking and financial systems; Lorelei Costlow and Maya Kusic, business ethics; Alaina Nelson and Raelin Stoll, digital video production; Emma Riggs, entrepreneurship; Ivy Myers, event planning; Kennedy Guiddy and Marley Stottler, graphic design; Alaina Nelson, introduction to business procedures; Bronson Pack, introduction to supply chain management; Gavin Scott, personal finance; and Morgan McKinney and Kayleigh Suddoth, sales presentation.

• Runners-up: Elijah Sparks, Accounting I; Ryan Haught, career portfolio; Pierce Ferrell, Jacob High and Gavin Scott, data analysis; Elijah Lanigan, economics; Gunner Yost, future business education; Paige Henderson, hospitality and event management; Faith Ferrell, insurance and risk management; Paige Henderson, introduction to business communications; Gwen Hill, networking infrastructures; Kayleigh Suddoth, project management; Maya Kusic, retail management; and Cooper Byers, securities and investments.

• Third place: Jacob High, advertising; Cooper Byers and Grace Spitak, business plan; Korina Jones and Ava Roach, digital animation; Will Harvey, economics; Bryson Murray and Connor Pack, financial statement analysis; Ivy Myers, health care administration; Andrea Bolen, hospitality and event management; Ava Roach, introduction to business concepts; Charles McCoy, introduction to marketing concepts; Jasmine Spencer, introduction to supply chain management; Bronson Pack and Kayden Thoma, marketing; Luke Haught, sales presentation; and Elijah Lanigan, sports and entertainment management.

• Fourth place: Connor Pack, Accounting I; Will Harvey, Cole Henry and Anthony Perloski, financial planning; Genevieve Dalesio, impromptu speaking; Korina Jones, introduction to business procedures; Audriana Roach, introduction to marketing concepts; Genevieve Dalesio, organizational leadership; and Carl DiGiacinto, real estate.

Winners in the West Virginia Young Writers competition also were recognized, including Deedra Groves, who finished first in the grades 11-12 category and third in the state, and Leah Duke, who finished first in the grades 9-10 category.

Several students were recognized for being accepted into the West Virginia Music Educators Association All-State Choir: Max Diaz, Kamryn Lloyd, Gabe Keener, Roni VanCamp, Landon Hurley, Deedra Groves and Kaylah Steinhebel. Jennifer Tulodzieski is the Brooke choir director.
