PennWest students named to Dean’s List

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – More than 2,800 undergraduate students at Pennsylvania Western University (PennWest) were named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2026 semester in recognition of outstanding academic achievement.

Local students recognized include Tyson Clear, of Carrollton, Ohio, a PennWest Edinboro student studying secondary education, and Cara Vandeborne, of Wintersville, a PennWest Clarion student studying psychology.

To qualify, students must earn a minimum 3.4 GPA while completing at least 12 graded credits.

US 22, WV 2 ramp closures set May 26-29

BROOKE COUNTY – The U.S. Route 22 eastbound Exit 1 off-ramp and West Virginia Route 2 southbound Ramp A on-ramp will be restricted beginning Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, May 29, for guardrail installation and paving.

Motorists are advised to follow posted detours and use alternate routes, including County Route 1 (Harmon Creek Road) and U.S. 22 westbound to WV 2 southbound.

Officials note inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances could alter the schedule.

Toronto Schools Set Board Meeting, Public Hearing

TORONTO – Toronto City Schools will hold its monthly board meeting Thursday, May 21, at 5 p.m., with a public hearing held prior regarding the superintendent position.

Brooke County Library offers May programs

WELLSBURG – The Brooke County Public Library will host several programs, including Crocheting Club on May 27, at noon in the River Room for beginners through experts. Participants should bring their own supplies.

The library’s Recipe Club will meet May 29, at noon with a “Picnic Recipes” theme. Participants are asked to bring a prepared dish and recipe to share.

Storybook Yoga for children and caregivers will be held Wednesday, at 5 p.m. Registration is required.

The library and Follansbee Branch will be closed Monday for Memorial Day.

Cedarville University names local student to Dean’s List

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Chloe Barnette, of Toronto, was named to the spring 2026 Dean’s Honor List at Cedarville University.

Students must earn a 3.75 GPA or higher while completing at least 12 credit hours to qualify.

Cedarville University is an evangelical Christian institution in southwest Ohio.

Steubenville School Board to meet Wednesday

STEUBENVILLE – The Steubenville Board of Education will hold its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the administrative offices at 611 N. Fourth St.

Jefferson County Board of DD to meet Thursday

STEUBENVILLE – The Jefferson County Board of Developmental Disabilities will meet in regular session at 4:15 p.m. Thursday in the conference room of its administrative offices at 250 John Scott Highway. Participants may call ahead to make accommodations.

Retired Railroaders to meet in Calcutta

CALCUTTA – Retired and active railroaders are invited to attend NARVRE’s monthly meeting at 11 a.m. Thursday at JP’s Pizzeria, 15946 state Route 170. Doors open at 10 a.m. For information, contact Rocco Saracco at (330) 853-3045.

Adena Plans Memorial Day events

ADENA – Memorial Day observances will include a 1:30 p.m. Friday service at West Elementary School, followed by a Monday program beginning at 9 a.m. with an ecumenical service at St. Casimir Church, a parade, and a ceremony at the Legion Memorial.

Sheriff Mark Touville will serve as guest speaker.

House of Prayer Honors Mothers

MINGO JUNCTION – The House of Prayer held a special Mother’s Day service, recognizing mothers in attendance and presenting awards for oldest mother, youngest mother, and mother of the year.
