Fire at Eagle Manufacturing under investigation
WELLSBURG — A fire at the Eagle Manufacturing facility Wednesday afternoon is under investigation.
“One of the plastics machines caught fire,” reported Wellsburg Fire Chief Scott Kins, who noted the fire was contained to the area of the machine. “The sprinkler system in the building was operational and deployed.”
Damage was limited to the machine itself and its electronics, and no injuries were reported, Kins said.
In addition to Wellsburg, firefighters from Franklin, Follansbee, Hooverson Heights, McKinleyville, and Brilliant responded to the scene.
Traffic was temporarily closed in some areas around the facility, including on Charles Street between 22nd and 25th streets, and on 22nd Street from Yankee Street to Charles Street, with assistance from Brooke County Emergency Management and crews from the City of Wellsburg.
Post 10 sets Memorial Day event
WEIRTON — Evertt Maki American Legion Post 10 will hold its Memorial Day service at 11 a.m. Monday at the Weirton Steel Veteran’s Memorial located on Three Springs Drive.
The service is open to the public and all are encouraged to come and see program in honor of all who served our country. The Rev. Rudy McAllister will be the guest speaker.
Members of the public are welcome to bring their own chairs. Lunch will be served at the post at 3140 Pennsylvania Ave. after the service.
Special meeting scheduled in Mingo Junction
MINGO JUNCTION — Village Council has called for a special meeting Thursday to pass a resolution hiring an engineer for an emergency project on Ravine Street, Mayor Judy Ruckman reports. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in council chambers, 501 Commercial St., Mingo Junction.
Steubenville Planning Committee meeting moved up
STEUBENVILLE — City Council has moved its next planning committee meeting up 30 minutes. The meeting, to discuss rental registrations, will now begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday in council chambers, 123 S. 3rd Street, Steubenville.
Summer food program available for kids in Steubenville
STEUBENVILLE — Steubenville City Schools will once again offer breakfast and lunch to kids at no charge during the summer months from June 1-Aug. 7.
• June 1-Aug. 7: Breakfast will be available from 7:40 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. and lunch from 10 a.m. to noon at Harding Middle School, 2002 Sunset Blvd.
• June 1-June 19: Breakfast will be available from 7:40 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. and lunch from 10 a.m. to noon at Steubenville High School, 420 N. Fourth St.
