Sunrise seniors honor mothers, fathers

TORONTO — The Toronto Sunrise Seniors honored mothers and fathers during a banquet May 8 at the Karaffa Recreation Center Commons Area.

Barbara Pritts, president, welcomed members and guests, including Mayor Tom Parker and his wife, Tracey. A moment of silence was held in memory of longtime member Ruth White.

Chaplain Mary Lou Emery gave the blessing for the meal, which was catered by Connie’s Corner. The kitchen committee — Joe and Sandi Radvansky, Mary Ellen Marion, Nancy Bodrog and Janet Petrella — decorated tables with hanging baskets of petunias, pots of pansies and purple-and-white place settings.

Following dinner, members recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Sandi Radvansky shared details of upcoming trips, and social secretary Mary Ann Landerfield recognized May birthdays and anniversaries. She also shared a reading on the origins of Mother’s Day in West Virginia.

The evening’s program featured members sharing humorous stories about parenting. Participants included Pritts, Marsha McConnell, Karen Martin, Laura Sheets, Joe and Sandi Radvansky, Bea Lytle, Frank Marino, Patti Losey and Petrella.

Gift cards to Tri-B’s, donated by the mayor, were won by Sandi Radvansky, Mary Murphy, Bonnie Wilson, Petrella and Marcella Miller.

Floral centerpieces were won by Marino, Carol Rodgers, Jackie Collins, Bodrog, Lynn Miller, Marion, Donna Farmer, Dale Martin, Lytle and Dave Devore.

The 50-50 drawing winners were Mary Lou Deku and Rodgers.

Following adjournment, members played bingo.

The next meeting is scheduled for Friday. The group welcomes Ohio residents age 55 and older to attend meetings.
