Beech Bottom election sees tie in council results

BEECH BOTTOM – Four of the five at-large council seats in Beech Bottom were decided as part of Tuesday’s election, with the fifth to be determined during next week’s canvassing.

The village election saw nine candidates step forward with the hope of representing their community on council.

Of those, Shane Niven received the highest number of votes with 39, followed by Greg Sheperd with 36; Don Hubbard with 35; and Nick Showalter with 34.

Results show a tie vote for the fifth council seat, with Bab Sadler and PJ Dalbo each receiving 30 votes. According to city officials, the tie vote will be addressed during canvassing, set to be held Tuesday.

Of the remaining council candidates, Linda Dowell received 23 votes, Bruce Hunter received 22 votes, and Terry Porter received six votes.

Mayor Becky Uhlly will remain in office after receiving 55 votes in an unopposed election, with Sharon Jordan also receiving 55 votes in an unopposed race for village recorder.

Those declared winners following the canvassing will be sworn in later this month, with four-year terms set to begin July 1.
