NEWELL – The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a two-vehicle crash near the Ergon refinery, Tuesday, which resulted in one individual trapped within a vehicle.

Hancock County 911 received a call from Ergon just after 3 p.m. Tuesday of a two-vehicle crash with entrapment and injuries on W.Va. 2 near the refinery located south of Newell. Ergon employees and passing motorists stopped to assist before emergency responders arrived, acording to a report from the Sheriff’s Office.

The male driver trapped inside one of the vehicles was extricated by the Newell Volunteer Fire Department, with emergency medical personnel treating both drivers at the scene before transporting them to East Liverpool City Hospital for further treatment.

The crash resulted in the area of W.Va. 2 being closed for several hours. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
