Water line repair planned
WEIRTON -- Crews from the Weirton Area Water Board will be working on a water line on Riverview Drive, beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Once work is completed, a boil order will be issued for Riverview Drive, Elwood Avenue and any other water customers in the area experiencing low or no water pressure.
City school board to meet
STEUBENVILLE -- The Steubenville City Board of Education will hold its regular July meeting at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The meeting will be held at the administrative offices, 611 N. Fourth St.
Area man dies in motorcycle crash
WEIRTON -- An area man has died following a motorcycle crash Saturday on Kings Creek Road.
According to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Nathan Riggs, 34, was operated a dirt bike on Kings Creek Road at approximately 6:30 p.m., Saturday, when he lost control while negotiating a curve, crossing left of center and colliding with an oncoming vehicle.
Riggs was transported to WVU Medicine Weirton Medical Center by Hancock County Ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the other vehicle was not injured, remained at the scene, and cooperated with investigators.
In addition to Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputies and Hancock County Ambulance, Oakland Volunteer Fire Department, Weirton Fire Department and the Weirton Police Department responded to the scene.
Women On Target clinic returning to Chester-Newell Sportsman's Club
CHESTER, W.Va. -- The NRA "Women On Target" instructional shooting clinic will return to the Chester-Newell Sportsman's Club on Saturday, Aug. 8.
The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to late afternoon at the club's facilities at 131 Gas Valley Road in Georgetown, Pennsylvania. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by classroom instruction at 9 a.m., a provided lunch at 11 a.m. and live pistol and revolver shooting beginning at noon.
Participants must attend the entire class to receive a certificate.
Registration costs $45 and requires pre-registration by July 25, 2026. The fee covers targets, ammunition, lunch, and the use of firearms, eye protection, and ear protection. The clinic will take place rain or shine, and cancellation fees after the deadline are non-refundable. The first 30 registrants will receive a free t-shirt and goodie bag.

Library announces August events across Jefferson County
STEUBENVILLE -- The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County has announced a variety of programs and activities scheduled for August.
At the Main Library, adults can watch The Value of Life on Aug. 6 at 5:30 p.m. The film has local ties, as Steubenville resident Carmine Pate's father, Salvatore Pate, who lives in Calabria, Italy, wrote and produced the movie. The film follows a man whose life is transformed by events that challenge his faith and values. The movie is 1 hour, 45 minutes long and has a suggested PG rating. Reservations are required.
Teens and adults can participate in a real-life game of Clue on Aug. 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Roving Rogue Production will present an interactive mystery set at a museum where a valuable item once belonging to Andrew Carnegie has been stolen. Registration is required.
The Main Library also will host Tai Chi Thursdays at 10 a.m. with certified instructor Mike Turrentine. A Fold3 military e-resource class will be held Aug. 5 at 1:30 p.m.
Other branch activities include crafts, fitness programs, Dungeons & Dragons, painting activities, chair aerobics and chess.

Brooke County school board sets July meeting
WELLSBURG, W.Va. -- The Brooke County Board of Education will hold its next regular meeting at 5 p.m. July 27 at the Brooke County Board of Education office, 1201 Pleasant Ave.
The announcement was made by Dr. Jeffrey R. Crook, superintendent of Brooke County Schools.
Brooke County Library announces children's summer programs
WELLSBURG, W.Va. -- The Brooke County Public Library has announced several upcoming programs featuring movies, theater and summer activities for children.
The library, in partnership with West Virginia Public Broadcasting, will show Dinosaur Train: What's at the Center of the Earth? at 11 a.m. July 29 in the River Room.
Children can join Mr. Conductor and the Pteranodon family for an underground adventure and participate in activities connected to the movie. Summer meals are available for children ages 18 and younger. Registration is required.
Members of the Brooke Hills Playhouse cast will present a reading of The Emperor's New Clothes at 11:30 a.m. July 30 in the River Room. The program also will include excerpts from the show, character interactions and a question-and-answer session with actors. A drawing will be held for a family four-pack of tickets.
The library also will host Lunch & Play from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 28. Children ages 18 and younger can receive a free lunch and play in the children's room. Parents or guardians must provide supervision. Registration is not required.
