WEIRTON -- The penultimate Second Saturday event of the summer is scheduled for this weekend at the Weirton Event Center.
Organized by the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau, the event will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday and feature performances by New Age Adenas and Aristotle Jones, The Appalachian Soul Man.
Based in Wheeling, New Age Adenas features Mary Blake, Eric Wellman and Greg Pawlack. The band's name comes from the Adena people, known for the burial mounds throughout the region, and the group performs original music along with unique versions of songs by artists including Johnny Cash, Madonna and the Grateful Dead.
Jones, a Huntington-area native, is a singer-songwriter and storyteller focused on Appalachian Soul. His music blends influences from the coal mines with Mountain Doo-Wop, Soulful Folk and classic Rhythm & Blues.
Second Saturday also will include food, craft and artisan vendors, along with a farmers market.
The event is supported by community sponsors, including gold sponsors Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley, Serra Village Retirement Community and the Charles M. and Thelma M. Pugliese Charitable Foundation; silver sponsor WVU Medicine Weirton Medical Center; and bronze sponsors Summer's Enterprise, Form Energy and Starvaggi Industries.
Food vendors will include Tate's Teas, Cousins Maine Lobster and Janet's Gelato.
Admission is free. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets. Outside food and beverages are not permitted inside the Event Center.
The final Second Saturday event of the year will be held Sept. 12 and will feature performances by The Trainjumpers and Suns of Beaches.
