Brooke County libraries announce September programs
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Public Library and Follansbee Branch have several activities planned in September.
The Brooke County Public Library will host a West Virginia author book talk with state Sen. Ryan Weld at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, in the River Room. Weld will read excerpts from his book, “The Foundations of Wellsburg,” discuss his writing journey and answer questions. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Registration is required by calling 304-737-1551 or visiting brookecountylibs.org/events.
The library also will show “Project Hail Mary,” rated PG-13, at noon Friday, Sept. 11. Patrons can bring lunch while watching the film. Popcorn and water will be provided. Call 304-737-1551 to reserve a seat.
“Journal Junkies,” a monthly drop-in creative session, will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12. Participants can bring their own journals and materials or use resources and devices provided by the library. The session will be facilitated by Kirstie Perkins, a Kent State University graduate with a background in graphic design, mixed-media arts and creative writing.
The Brooke County Public Library and Follansbee Branch will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day.

Lane closures set for Veterans Memorial Bridge
BROOKE COUNTY -- The two right lanes of U.S. 22 eastbound on the Veterans Memorial Bridge will be closed beginning Wednesday, Sept. 9, for bridge maintenance.
The closures will begin on the Ohio side and move across the bridge to the West Virginia side throughout the day. Motorists are advised to slow down in the construction area.
Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances could change the schedule.
Steubenville library board to meet
STEUBENVILLE -- The Board of Trustees for the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Main Library, 407 S. Fourth St.
Those wishing to speak during the public comment period must visit or call the Main Library at 740-282-9782 to sign up by noon Monday, Sept. 7.
