BLOOMINGDALE -- There will be plenty to do, see and eat at the County Road 39 Farm Festival, set for Sept. 12-13 at the Pinkerton-Gross Farm, 775 County Road 39 (Unionport Road) in Bloomingdale.
"It's already our third year, time's flying by," organizer Donetta Campbell said, describing the festival as "two full days of fun, food vendors, baked goods, live music, games and contests."
This year, Campbell said the Walter Gross family and Pinkerton Farms had a shelter house built at the festival site in memory of Walter's late wife, Francie.
"We're thankful for the efforts of our volunteer planning committee, along with area youths who donate their time and talents every year to making this event a success," Campbell said. "We also want to thank our community for stepping up to help, including a neighbor who offered the use of one of his fields for parking. Their dedication brings all this together."
A number of food vendors will be on hand, including All-American Burger Co., Vandy's Sugar Shack, Jimmy Jukes Wood-fired Pizza, Kathy's Fresh-Popped Kettle Corn, Davis Foods and Taste of Abruzzo. The festival's Pancake House will be open both days for those with a hankering for pancakes and sausage, as well as ice cream. Grace Point Church will serve bean soup and cornbread, and "patriotic ladies" will be selling hot dogs in support of veterans.
The entertainment lineup includes:
-- Saturday: Local veterans will get the day started with a flag-raising at 8 a.m. DJ Cool Bobby C and a local music guest will entertain festivalgoers from 9-10:30 a.m., with local favorite Evan Conn performing from 10:30-11:45 a.m.; Adam Kiaski from 12:30-1 p.m.; Tonya Shockey from 1-2 p.m.; DJ Cool Bobby C from 2-3 p.m.; and the Norm Keyser Band from 4-6 p.m. The flag lowering will be at 6 p.m.
CR 39's annual Cornhole Tournament, a festival favorite, kicks off at 1 p.m. Saturday. Registration opens at noon and the entry fee is $10 per team or $5 per single entry, with a teammate to be drawn. First-place finisher gets 50 percent of the contest proceeds, with the balance donated to next year's festival.
-- Sunday: Flag-raising at 8 a.m.; DJ Cool Bobby C and a local musical guest will entertain from 9 a.m. to noon, followed by a church service from noon-12:45 p.m.; Cody & Courtney from 1-2 p.m.; and the Ron Retzer Trio from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
Other highlights include the CR 39 Farm Festival Car Show, 1-4 p.m., with DJ Frank providing entertainment. Registration opens at 11:30 a.m., with participants receiving a free dash plaque with their $10 entry. All makes, models and years of cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors can be entered, with awards to be presented, including Best of Show.
Campbell said entries for the pie-baking contest must be submitted by noon Sunday. This year's flavor is apple, the pie must be homemade and the recipe must be included. Entries will be judged at 5:30 p.m. on appearance and taste, then auctioned off, with proceeds going into the festival while the winner "gets a ribbon and bragging rights."
Raffle winners will be drawn as well.
