WINTERSVILLE -- A local youth sports organization is planning an event designed to bring the community together and provide important lessons to its participants.
Chiefs, Cleats and Eats will be held beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, and Tiffany Wallace said organizers want it to be more than a fundraising effort for the Indian Creek Chiefs Youth Football and Cheer Program.
“Our goal is much bigger than football,” Wallace, president of the organization, said. “We want to bring our community together, support local families and businesses and teach our young athletes that being a Chief means being a good person, supporting others and understanding the importance of community.”
Wallace said the event, which will be held at the Two Ridge softball complex in Wintersville, will include around 50 food vendors, a 50-50 drawing and drawings for other prizes. Organizers said they hope to have some live entertainment, as well.
National Honor Society members from Indian Creek High School also will be raising money for their organization.
Proceeds from he day will benefit the Chiefs, a program that includes 167 children between the ages of 7 and 12.
The organization, Wallace said, has been around for about 20 years, and was formerly known as the Mingo Chiefs.

‘We’re trying to bring the community together and raise good members of the community,” Wallace said.
She said the event is being made possible through the efforts of the board members and coaches, who have come together to ensure its success.
