CrestView Inn Cafe reopens doors

BLOOMINGDALE -- The CrestView Inn Cafe has reopened its doors to give culinary arts students hands-on experience serving the public.

Program instructor Glen Zalenski said his 15 juniors and seniors are operating the restaurant on Tuesdays to Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Juniors perform prep work while the seniors are overseeing operations each day, and Zalenski said the group is providing lunchtime meals but will eventually serve breakfast.

“It’s student-run and planned, and we will be open for breakfast later this fall once the juniors are certified,” he commented.

The restaurant held a soft opening for school staff two weeks prior and now the public can eat there. Seasonal items are being served and the fall menu has appetizers such as a homemade soup of the day, sweet chili and onion rings; salads, including apple and chicken in addition to fried shrimp; dinners including fish and chips and chicken parmigiana; sandwiches such as fried fish, Greek club, cheeseburger, Philadelphia cheese steak, Slim Jim and loaded French fries; and fried onion rings, French fries, cole slaw, side salad, and a cup of soup on the a la carte list. Beverages and a dessert of the day are also offered and menu items range from $1 to $8.

Dine-in and takeout meals are available with reservations taken for small groups and the restaurant seats up to 40 people. Additionally, the cafe is open each day for JVS students for coffee club and a study room from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. Zalenski said the youth can get a cup and enjoy some quiet time as they prepare for class.
