Nick of time: City police were able to prevent a woman from jumping off the Market Street Bridge Friday. The woman had one leg over the guardrail when an officer caught her and pulled her to the ground, police said. The woman ignored commands to stop and refused to speak with them, and when she spotted them following her broke into a run.
Female assaulted: A woman told police she fled a residence in the 900 block of Pittsburgh Street after two companions assaulted her, Sunday. The woman said the two men hit her in the head and choked her to the point of unconsciousness, burning her with lit cigarettes and holding a knife to her throat. She said she managed to break free and started running, ending up in the 1300 block of Wellesley Avenue where she saw a man standing on his porch and asked for help. Police said she had a lump on her forehead, her face showed signs of being hit, her neck was scratched and she had cigarette burns on her arms.
No supervision: An unattended 1-year-old was spotted running through yards in the 400 block of South Fifth St., Friday. Police said the mother had left the child with a family member who remained in her apartment while the child was outside.
Cashed out: A man and woman in the 100 block of South Seventh Street were fighting over money in a purse, Saturday. The man said the money was his, but the woman insisted the man had invited her to smoke with him so she'd given him money to purchase enough crack cocaine for the two of them plus one of her friends.
Debt collector: A city resident told police a man she owes money to is threatening to shoot up her residence, Saturday.
Trouble brewing: Callers reported a large group of people in the middle of Rosswell Avenue, Saturday. Police said the people, by then gathered on a porch, told them a man believed to have played a role in the drug death of a family member had driven by the residence.
Road hazard: Police found a bag with a blanket in the 2400 block of Sunset Boulevard after someone called in a report that an individual was laying in the roadway, Friday.
Gift card scam: Scammers claiming to be paying drivers just to put Budweiser signs on their vehicles were angry when a city resident refused to send them $500 in Amazon gift cards before the $2,050 check they sent her had cleared, Sunday. The check was bogus, but because she hadn't sent the gift cards the woman didn't lose any money, but she said her "boss" became hostile and aggressive when she refused to comply. The woman said the job was posted on indeed.com.

Confused: The 45-year-old driver of a vehicle stopped on state Route 7 near Rayland told authorities he and his 26-year-old passenger had been shooting up with heroin and had no idea how they ended up on the berm, Saturday. Callers had reported seeing a driver slumped over the steering wheel, and the individual didn't stir until a state trooper broke the driver's side rear window to gain access to the vehicle. A sheriff's deputy administered Narcan to the passenger, who was unconscious and struggling for breath. Deputies said the driver tried surreptitiously to empty a plastic bag containing heroin, instead spilling it all over himself and the back seat of an Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser. The man told authorities they'd "taken it while driving."
Disagreement: Caregivers for a mentally challenged individual in Richmond said a neighbor has been yelling slurs and blowing kisses at them, Friday. The women told deputies the individual is angry because they park in the street when the driveway is full, and believe he poured a sticky substance on the driver's door of one of their cars and positioned a shard of metal against a tire so that when the driver moved it, it would pierce it. The man denied it, but said his mother has trouble backing out of her driveway when the cars are parked in the street.
Wake-up call: A woman dozing on her couch said she was awakened by the sound of someone jiggling the door knob, Friday. She told deputies when she realized it wasn't her husband, she looked out the window and saw a stranger walking across their lawn.
Words hurt: An Island Creek township resident is under investigation for threatening UPS drivers, Friday. The customer, upset that his packages were being left at the side of his residence instead of the front porch, allegedly sent the delivery company an email saying he would "literally kill the next driver who delivered a package to the side of the house" and "doesn't care about going to jail for it, either." Notified of the alleged threats, the Brilliant postmaster advised suspending mail delivery to the residence until further notice.
Bites: A FedEx driver said she was bitten by a dog in Amsterdam and had to get stitches, Friday. She later told deputies another driver was bitten at the same address several hours later, though that person didn't need stitches.
Vandalized: Someone cut a fence and broke a window at a storage building on township Road 293, Friday.
