Steubenville police

Drifter: Police who'd stopped traffic on state Route 7 at N. Third Street following an accident had to wake up a man who fell asleep at the wheel, Thursday. The man's vehicle was moving slowly, and police originally thought it was someone from the tow company or the trucking firm. When he realized the driver was sleeping, he "began pounding on the driver side window very hard and screaming at the driver." The man said he'd been at work.

Water slide: A woman hydroplaned on Franciscan Way East, Thursday. Police said her vehicle slid across a sidewalk and over the hillside, coming to rest in several trees. The car was heavily damaged, they said.

Drinking buddies: Callers reported a disturbance in the 1400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Thursday, The occupant said he and his wife had been drinking all day and she started arguing with him. He said his wife gathered some belongings and left before police arrived.

Shots: A caller reported hearing several gunshots in the neighborhood north of Pershing Avenue, Thursday. Police were unable to find evidence of a disturbance.

Blind spot: A vehicle in the 400 block of S. Fourth Street told police he was sideswiped by a grey Pontiac Grand Am driven by a male, Thursday.

Arrested: Randy M. Otis, 27, 732 N. Sixth St., Steubenville, contempt of court, criminal trespass and two bench warrants, Thursday.

Arrested: Amanda Rogers, 33, 2623 Cherry Ave., bench warrant, Thursday.

Cited: Judy Godfrey, 1207 Ashland Dr., Mesquite, TX, failure to control; Ronald H Gibbons, 56, 431 Commercial Ave., Mingo Junction, operating a vehicle without reasonable control and failure to display a license; Michael A. Merino, 34, 416 Grant St., Steubenville, failure to signal. A juvenile also was cited for no taillight and possession of marijuana following a traffic stop on Belleview Boulevard near Euclid.

Unlucky driver: A woman driving through the parking lot at Hollywood Plaza passed her other vehicle going in the opposite direction with a woman behind the wheel and her husband in the passenger seat, Friday. She told police she ordered the other woman to stop, then pulled her out of the car. The other woman fled. The wife told police her husband is having an affair, but he denied it.

Cited: Thomas E. Walenciej, 22, 721 Market St., Apt. E, Steubenville, failure to control. Walenciej, cited following a one-car accident Friday in the 3200 block of Sunset, told police he tried to change lanes and turned too sharply, running off the road and shearing off a street sign.

Concealed weapon: A Harding Avenue woman said her estranged husband pushed her against a wall because she tried to hide his handgun, Friday. The woman said she and her husband are splitting up and when he came to get his things, he noticed the gun wasn't among them. She said he was upset and they argued, so she threw it at him.

Awkward: Police were called to the 100 block of Aberdeen Road to remove a pair of handcuffs from a man who told them he'd lost the key, Saturday.

Nightmare on Lincoln: A woman in the 1100 block of Lincoln Boulevard said she awakened to find her ex-boyfriend had managed to get in her home and was choking her, Saturday. She told police the commotion awakened her juvenile daughter, and when she ran into the room her ex punched her in the face and threatened to beat her child. He fled while police were en route.

Trouble: Callers reported juveniles throwing rocks at vehicles on Harding Avenue at McKinley, Friday. The children were gone when police arrived.

Walk softly: An intoxicated woman fell in the 200 block of S. Fourth Street, Friday. Police said she was gone by the time they arrived.

Arrested: Brielle Shey Hill, 33, 100 state Route 151, Mingo Junction, aggravated burglary, Thursday.

Arrested: Nicholas Myers, 22, 907 Main St., Toronto, domestic violence (pending), Thursday.

Arrested: Frances N. Puchmeyer, 32, Westlake, OH, operating a vehicle under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia, Thursday.

Arrested: Sean Webb, 32, Bowerston, OH., and William Wiandt, 50, Waynesburg, OH, each charged with possessing drugs, Thursday.
