Fight: A man living in the 100 block of Opal Boulevard said his neighbor pushed him down a set of steps during an argument because his female companion's cat was running loose in their building, Friday. The other man told police the cat was outside his apartment and when he yelled at it, the female came out of her apartment and start yelling at him. He said the woman's male companion followed her into the hallway and stuck his finger in his face. When he swatted the other man's hand away, he said the man stepped backwards and slipped on the stairs.
No joke: A man thrown out of a bar in the 200 block of South Third Street allegedly told police he had a handgun in his waistband, then became irritated when they searched him, Saturday. Police said when they searched the man he told them he was joking about the gun, but because of his "highly intoxicated state" they handcuffed him until he could be positively identified. They said the man directed a string of profanities at them and tried to pull away, becoming combative when they arrested him and head-butting one officer in the chest. Police said they had to lift the man into the rear of the cruiser.
Fired: Callers reported hearing shots in the vicinity of Oregon Avenue and Wilkins Street and Oregon and Woodlawn Road, Saturday. Police were unable to locate any casings.
Last delivery: A Domino's driver told police his car was stolen while he was inside Circle K on Lincoln Avenue, Saturday.
Shifty: A male walked out of Rural King with a $400 Milwaukee drill set he hadn't paid for, Saturday. Employees said the thief put the drill in his truck and drove behind the building, but realized he was being followed and threw the drill out of the truck, then fled the scene.
Bad call: An individual trying to steal a car in the 1500 block of Oregon Avenue allegedly left his cell phone in the vehicle, Saturday. The owner of the car said he followed the thief in another vehicle until they reached a dead-end, where the miscreant exited the stolen car and took off running toward Kendall Avenue. Police searched an abandoned property on Kendall Avenue but couldn't locate the thief, though they did find a gun on a ground between houses. Officers subsequently asked a man walking up Foster Place if he'd misplaced his cellphone, and he confirmed he had, identifying the phone found in the stolen car as his. The owner of the stolen vehicle was unable to identify him.
Robbed: A home in the 700 block of Oakmont Avenue was burgled, Friday. The owner said been out for a few minutes before Thanksgiving and returned to find jewelry, cash and his wallet missing, but didn't notice until recently his handgun was also missing.
