Court bound: A Mingo Junction resident told deputies Monday a man known to him had his handgun and refused to return it or pay for it. The man told deputies he'd loaned the weapon to an acquaintance18 months ago because he planned on buying it, but said the man has refused to give it back and no money had been exchanged. The other man said he'd been given the gun as collateral for car repairs, and had agreed to return it to the owner when the repairs were paid for, but since the man never gave the money he owed him, he'd kept it. He said he'd had it so long he'd gifted it to a family member.

Trouble: Two juvenile girls and their 20-year-old escort are in trouble after authorities found the car they were traveling in against a cattle gate on County Road 11 Tuesday near Adena. Deputies said the vehicle was unlocked, and when they looked for information on ownership and insurance information, they detected an odor of burned marijuana and searched it, locating a round cookie tin containing a glass smoking bowl, rolling papers, two straws and a grinder in a storage pocket behind the passenger seat. Officers also located a glass jar on the floor with 5.2 grams of a substance believed to be marijuana in a baggie and a bag on the rear seat that contained a glass smoking bowl and grinder. The 20-year-old driver initially denied knowledge of the drugs or paraphernalia, but eventually told deputies they were on the way home after eating and smoking marijuana when he crashed his car. His two companions omitted mention of the marijuana until deputies brought it up, at which point one girl admitted smoking and mentioned having a glass pipe in her purse. All three denied knowledge of the other items. The male took responsibility for the drugs but deputies advised the girls they also will be charged. Offenses cited in the report include possession of drug abuse instruments, possession of marijuana and corruption of minors.

The Toronto resident also received a 1099-G, this one reporting $1,941 in benefits for the year despite having been retired nearly a decade.

Checking: While searching for a man who told dispatchers he feared he might harm himself or others, deputies stopped a vehicle leaving a parking lot on state Route 43. The man wasn't in the vehicle, but officers observed an open case of beer in the back seat and detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the driver. An officer remained on scene with the man until Ohio State Highway Patrol arrived on scene. Police were able to locate the original caller and got him to a health care provider.

Missing: A Knox township resident said an envelope containing $2,800 was missing from her residence after an individual who had been staying with her and her boyfriend told her he'd chased someone from the residence, Tuesday. She hung up and called the boyfriend, who called 911, and when she told their house guest he "became very irate and (said) she should not have called 911 and he was going to jail." The man was gone when police arrived on scene. Deputies said security footage showed an individual dressed in black with a hood grab a rock and used it to break the outer layer of door glass, then the door opened and the person went inside, leaving not long after being followed by another individual in dark clothing and no shoes. Witnesses reported seeing a slender male in dark clothing run away from the house, followed by a slender white male who returned a short time later, made a call and then got into a vehicle driven by a male.
