Jefferson County sheriff

A property owner in Irondale reported a break-in, Thursday. Nothing was taken but he said someone tried to get into a gun safe, which was empty. He said there was nothing of value in the house but he wanted the intrusion on record. The intruder busted a deadbolt to gain entry and ransacked the property.

Booked: Joshua Vincent, 24, 47B Christopher Ave., Wintersville, assault, Thursday.

Steubenville police

Pilfered: A plate tamper and a two-foot bucket for a mini-excavator are missing from a worksite on State Route 7 northbound at Franklin Avenue, Thursday. The items, last used about two weeks ago, are valued at $2,000 and belong to Ohio West Virginia Excavating.

Targeted: An individual at Franciscan Square told police someone is attempting to use his personal information to open credit card accounts and take out loans, Thursday.

He said he receives calls daily and most of them are out-of-state or out-of-country. Police told him the crimes are outside the department’s investigative ability, but he needs to change his cell number and enroll in an identity protection service.

Booked: James Seth Allen Blackwell, 42, 711 Oakmont Ave. Steubenville, resisting arrest, two counts of felony drug possession and a bench warrant, Thursday. Officers said they spotted Blackwell on a motorcycle in the 500 block of Ohio Street, but when they tried to take him into custody, they claim he resisted.

He allegedly had methamphetamine and cocaine in his possession at the time of his arrest.

Batter up: An Oregon Avenue resident said a man approached a vehicle she was driving with a baseball bat and began to swing it, Thursday. An officer attempted to speak with the man, who made very little sense, according to the officer.

When he went in the house the officer said the man became agitated and began threatening him, at one point picking up a brick and walking toward him until the officer was forced to draw his weapon at which point, he retreated. The original caller said she didn’t want to pursue charges but did want a report on file.

Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to owners of properties at 535 Railroad Ave., 2363 Chestnut St., 323 South Sixth St., 325 South Soxth St., 323 South Sixth St., high grass.
