Missing beer: A resident in the 400 block of South Fifth Street said she was sitting in front of her residence when someone slipped in the back door and stole a 12-pack of beer from her refrigerator. She wanted to pursue charges, so police told her they'd try to view security footage in the area. Later, police were told the woman and her neighbors were fighting over the missing beer. The neighbors said the woman came to their house and asked them to check their security camera but after she didn't find any footage of the crime, tempers bubbled over and they accused her of stealing it. The neighbor admitted grabbing a stick for protection and said her significant other had a BB gun but never took it outside the house during the confrontation. Police were able to calm them all down.
Had enough: A city resident told police her son is "intoxicated all the time and she would like him to seek treatment," Friday. Police told her they can ask if he wants assistance, but they can't force him to go nor could they arrest him since there'd been no threats or physical violence. When they spoke with the son, he wasn't interested in getting help, even though police noted he was "visibly intoxicated." He told them he was going to go to his room and sleep. An hour later police were back at the residence after the woman told them he went in her bedroom and shredded papers, including her Bible.
She told police he didn't hurt her but said he did tell her he would kill her and suggested she should kill herself and is in fear that he will harm her. Police said they could smell the alcohol on his breath and when they checked the residence, saw papers ripped and thrown on her floor. She said they get along fine when he's sober.
Pricey prank: A Wildon Avenue resident told police someone broke the pump to his backyard pond and the net he uses to clean the water, and said he thought it was his neighbor's kids because a neighbor reported seeing the kids behind his house and one of the perpetrators left "a small tote with children's handwriting" behind, Friday. The kids also left trash behind. The neighbor denied her kids having any part in damaging the items, but agreed she and her children would help him fix it and made arrangements to pay him for the damage.
Reported: Two callers and a police officer reported hearing "eight or nine shots" in the vicinity of the 1600 block of Ridge Avenue, Saturday. Both callers told police they thought the shots came from the Brady Avenue/Brady Circle area, but police checked the area and found no evidence suggesting guns had been fired.
No rest: Two men sitting on the porch of an abandoned property in the 200 block of South Fifth Street were advised to leave and not return, Saturday. Police said the door was ajar but no one was inside.
Gear shift: A delivery vehicle drifted backward and struck the fender of a car parked on Paddy Mud Road, Saturday. The delivery driver said he shifted into park and stepped out of his delivery vehicle, but after he grabbed the package he noticed it was drifting backward. He said he tried to stop it but couldn't. The parked vehicle sustained minor damage, police said.
Can't stay: A man sleeping on a bench in the laundry room at JFK Apartments was told that since he didn't live there he'd have to leave, Saturday.
Nuisance: A Sherman Avenue resident told police she didn't want a man who was "possibly intoxicated ... around her younger children," Saturday. She said he'd been there most of the day and had been a nuisance, being loud and arguing with people. He'd left her property by then, but when he saw them talking to the woman he started yelling for them to come to speak to him. Officers said he had a "strong odor" of alcohol about him and continued to drink while they were with him, but he was on his friend's porch. He denied being at the woman's residence and claimed he'd been at his friend's place for hours.
Vandalism: Juveniles tossed traffic cones over the guardrail on Lincoln Heights Hill, Friday. Police retrieved two cones and planed them back in the roadway.
Open container: A man was sitting on the curb in the 100 block of Butte Street with an open can of beer, Friday. Police told him he can't drink on a public street and poured it out.
They can't let go: A woman in the 1300 block of Wellesley Avenue claimed her ex punched her in the nose, Sunday. She said he was with a woman across the street and when they saw her in front of a family member's house, he got out his car and decked her. She told police her face felt numb and police said it looked swollen. The woman across the street told police the victim had been harassing her and "then (she) began making threats of harming (her) if she comes near her property." The victim and her ex have three children in common,
Defensive: A Richmond man was booked after he allegedly tried to leave Wal-Mart with hand tools and a tool bag he hadn't paid for, Friday. Employees told police they watched Clay D. Mills, 18, 217 S. Walnut St., scan candy bars and then bag tools and other items, police said. Mills, charged with petty theft, told police he "had a bad childhood and is not mentally capable of doing things on his own." Police said the items were valued at just over $150.
