Mingo Junction Police
Pigsty: An officer patrolling on McLister Avenue noticed a strong manure smell Thursday. The officer then observed two potbelly pigs to be in the front yard of a residence with "large amounts of feces." Police went to the residence and spoke with the owner, who apologized for the smell and said he would clean up the mess.
Cited: Adam Delawder, 33, 5286 county Road 74, assured clear distance, Tuesday.
West Virginia State Police
Charged: Jonathan L. Logan, 51, 650 Washington Pike, Wellsburg, failure to register as a sex offender, Thursday.
Steubenville Police
Out of hand: Employees at Mr. Fuel complained a man inside the building "was yelling obscenities and refusing to leave the store," Thursday. Police told him to leave the area and warned him if he returned, he would be arrested.
Bothersome: An employee at the downtown Speedway told police a man "had been standing around asking for money for three hours and was refusing to leave the property," Thursday. Police told the man he needed to leave "and was not to return," so he paid for his drink and left the area.
Charged: Jason L. Jones, 38, 1306 Arlington Ave., Steubenville, petit theft, Thursday. Employees at the midtown Speedway complained that two people left the store without paying for their merchandise and police located two people matching the description they gave them in the 2500 block of Sunset Boulevard.
Sleepy: Police were called several times about a man sleeping on private property, Thursday. Shortly before 10 p.m. a caller reported him sleeping in a parking lot in the 4500 block of Sunset Boulevard, and when police arrived they told him he'd need to "vacate the parking lot and go out of public view if he wished to sleep somewhere," so he walked down behind the business near the wood line. About 90 minutes later police were sent to the 4200 block of Sunset Boulevard after callers reported he was "sleeping in the middle of the parking lot." Police woke him up and told him he needed "to find safer places to sleep" and advised him he couldn't return there, either. An hour later a business in the 4400 block of Sunset Boulevard reported he was "sleeping in the parking lot, blocking traffic." They woke him up and advised him to find a safer place to sleep, but not long after were called back to the store because he allegedly was "threatening patrons if they did not buy him items at the store."
Needed a lift: Callers reported a man loitering at Franciscan Square, Thursday. Police said they found the man, "sleeping on the ground near the dumpsters" and he asked them for a ride to Colliers.
Finger pointing: Three people each accused the other of causing problems during an argument at a residence in the 800 block of Market Street, Thursday. One man said he'd been threatened with a bat, a second man claimed he had been threatened with a saw and a female said she was knocked to the ground, hit in the face and grabbed by the throat, but she had no bruises or cuts. The man who'd allegedly armed himself with the bat said the other man had been staying there for several days and he didn't want him there, but police determined he had a place to stay in Toronto and they told him to "leave ... and not return."
Cited: Hannah E. Masloski, 25, 2024 Eve Drive, Steubenville, failure to yield on a left turn, Thursday after what police described as a "T-bone style collision" at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Lovers Lane. Maslowski told police she was in the turning lane when she spotted people she knew on the sidewalk and started waving at them instead of focusing on the road, striking the drivers side of a vehicle eastbound on Sunset. The driver of the second vehicle had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to Trinity Medical Center West for treatment. Two juveniles in his car were taken to the hospital by their mother, who arrived on scene.
Had enough: A Cleveland Avenue resident asked police to advise a family member to stay away from her home, Thursday. She told police he was "intoxicated and tearing up the house," and while he hadn't been violent she wanted him to leave for the evening. He'd left the property, but police located him in the vicinity, and said he appeared "intoxicated or under the influence of narcotics." He said he'd spend the night at a friend's house.
Chair lift: A resident in the 1100 block of Wellesley Avenue told police a neighbor reported seeing juveniles in her back yard and said they stole several of her chairs, Thursday. She said they were pink.
Reported: A man in the 400 block of North Fourth Street claimed he was threatened by two building managers, Thursday. He said the two told him they'd beat him up.
Pole struck: A driver struck a pole on University Boulevard at Franciscan Square, Thursday. The airbags were deployed and police said the driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt, and there was "spidering on the windshield where (he) possibly struck his head." He was bleeding from his ears and complaining of chest pains and said he was headed home from the hospital but did not remember why he was there. He was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh area hospital. No further information was available. Police said the pole was not damaged.
No way to live: A city resident with health issues told police her husband grabbed her by the lower back and caused her to bleed, Thursday. She said the bleeding had stopped but she "was in fear of (him) due to him drinking all day" and their past domestic issues. He told police she "kept arguing with him" and denied touching her, police said.
One report: Someone reported hearing shots fired in the 1500 block of Oregon Avenue, but officers checked the area and didn't locate any injuries or casings, Thursday.
Ongoing: Police were told juveniles kicked in the entrance door to an apartment building in the 100 block of Brady Circle and threw a rock through the glass, Thursday. A woman who was present told police she got the names of two of the suspects and said the door had recently been repaired after a similar incident. The property manager said he didn't want to pursue charges, but he did want a "no contact" order barring the kids from being on the property.
Stolen: A 42-inch Vizio TV, a Toshiba laptop and DVDs were reported stolen from a property in the 700 block of North Fifth Street, Thursday.
Booked: Shawn Connor, 50, 1414 State St., Steubenville, domestic violence, Thursday.
Cited: Theresa A. Duggan, 48, 1245 Pennsylvania Ave., Steubenville, Rhonda G. Winters, 52, 20 Morton Hill Road, Follansbee; and Thomas C. Jones Jr., 227 Madison Ave., Mingo Junction, all for speeding; Robert W. Corner, 28, Marietta, Ga., expired registration and speeding; also, a GMC Jimmy with expired plates parked in the 400 block of Lawson Avenue was towed; two cars with expired plates were towed from the 300 block of Madison Avenue; and a boat on a trailer and a utility trailer were towed from the 1400 block of Euclid Avenue.
Police said they were unable to locate identifying information for either vehicle, and both were in violation of city code. The boat's trailer registration expired in 2002.
