Mingo Junction Police

Facing charges: A 36-year-old man is facing charges after he was allegedly caught climbing out of a teenage girl’s bedroom window in Mingo Junction, Thursday. Police Chief Willie McKenzie said charges of rape and burglary are pending against Steven T. Kovach, 3129 Wilson Ave., Mingo Junction. McKenzie said parents and siblings of the child were in the home at the time.

Shoplifting: Joseph Reese, 26, 106 Penn Ave., theft, Nov. 20. A follow-up on Nov. 17, after a shoplifting incident at Dollar General the day prior, led police to Reese, who had been identified by a store employee. Police showed Reese surveillance footage of the incident, after which Reese admitted to having stolen the items in question: food items and nausea medicine valued at a total of $35. He was taken into custody afterward for booking at the Jefferson County Jail.

In custody: A Steubenville man ended up in custody after he told deputies he needed help because three cars “full of gang members” were chasing him from Martins Ferry and he “was driving 120 miles per hour” to get away so they wouldn’t kill him, Friday. Deputies said Joshua Allen Ventanze, 44, 298 Summit Ave., was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of narcotics after he allegedly admitted to taking methamphetamine “several days prior and … relapsing.”

Wrong house: A Dillonvale resident said a package he was expecting was stolen, Thursday. He said a family member had sent power tools for him valued at about $700. The family member who’d sent him the package said she had received a photo of it on a porch as proof of delivery, but said she could tell from the picture it wasn’t her son’s porch.

Delivery issue: A Richmond resident said FedEx delivered a package meant for him but it wasn’t to his address, Wednesday. He said when he got the notification he immediately went outside to get it but it wasn’t there. The delivery driver was already at another house handing a package to a neighbor, but he said he was unable to stop the driver and when he knocked at the neighbor’s door to inquire if they had his box the door was slammed in his face. The neighbor told deputies they hadn’t received a package.

Steubenville Police

Listen up: A city resident was booked into the Jefferson County jail on an eight-hour intoxication hold and charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication, Thursday. Police said Kareem Carlock Jr., 23. 1533 Euclid Ave., Apt. J, reported being assaulted at a Lincoln Avenue business, but a witness said she’d seen him walk up to a vehicle and demand the occupant exit the vehicle, but when the other driver got out the two of them moved behind another vehicle and she couldn’t see what happened next. She said since there’d been an altercation she wanted him to leave the property and not return but police said he refused to, insisting that he wasn’t leaving until they’d seen surveillance footage even though officers repeatedly told him it wouldn’t be available until morning. Police allege that when they told Carlock he needed to leave the property immediately he again refused to leave without seeing the footage, despite being told multiple times it wasn’t available, and also claim he threatened to hit them.

Risky business: A city resident reported a man in a silver Honda Civic made an obscene gesture at her juvenile daughter while they were driving in the 4400 block of Sunset Boulevard, Thursday. She said she followed the driver “until he appeared to be going to a secluded area,” when she gave up the chase. She was able to give officer his license plate number, but they told her to “never follow someone in a situation like that” because she was putting herself and her child at risk.

Overstayed: A Lawson Avenue resident said she’d let a man stay at her home for three days “but now she wanted him removed,” Thursday. He was gone before officers arrived.

Picture perfect: Police identified a man seen in security videos pushing $100 in groceries from Kroger Tuesday without paying for them, Thursday. The information was forwarded to the prosecutor for charges.

Booked: Andrew Henton, 31, 403 Belleview Blvd., fugitive from justice, Thursday.

Reported: A caller reported hearing shots fired in the southern area of the city, possibly south of Trinity Medical Center East, Thursday. Police checked the area and found no evidence of guns being fired.

Holiday joy: A caller complained of a loud party in the 1600 block of Ridge Avenue, Thursday. Police located the host and advised him to keep the noise down.

Kid stuff: Juveniles were said to be arguing and running in and out of the street in the 1500 block of Maryland Avenue, but when police checked the area, they said no one was outside, Thursday.
