Operation Grinch nets 26 arrests
WEIRTON — More than two dozen area residents got a visit from the Grinch Thursday, as area law enforcement rallied as part of an annual holiday sweep.
Operation Grinch was held as a joint operation among Weirton Police, West Virginia State Police and the Brooke and Hancock county sheriff’s departments, West Virginia Department of Natural Resources and Jefferson County Drug Task Force.
According to a social media post by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department following the conclusion of the operation, there were five search warrants served Thursday and 26 individuals arrested as part of the sweep.
The sweep resulted in 31 felony charges, and the confiscation of numerous drugs, firearms and cash.
This included 200 grams of cocaine, 10 grams of fentanyl, 3 pounds of marijuana, 1 ounce of ecstasy, four guns and more than $16,000.
