Preparations continue for Weirton election

WEIRTON -- As the filing period approaches, Weirton officials continue to prepare for the city’s 2019 municipal election.

The offices of mayor and all seven members of Weirton Council will appear on the ballot, with filing set to begin Jan. 14. Those interested in seeking office may do so until noon Jan. 26.

The city’s primary election will be held April 2, with the general election on June 11.

Applications for office will be available either by visiting the City Clerk’s Office, located at the Weirton Municipal Building, or online at www.cityofweirton.com.

The filing fee for mayor is $100 and for a council seat is $50.

Applications will be accepted at the City Clerk’s Office during regular business hours -- 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. -- Monday through Friday, as well as from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 19 and Jan. 26. All city offices will be closed Jan. 21 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

For those mailing in their application, it must be completed and postmarked no later than Jan. 26.
