WEIRTON -- There are only a few days remaining for those interested in becoming a candidate for mayor or council in Weirton's 2019 municipal election.
The city's filing period will end at noon Saturday, with applications available at the City Clerk's Office or online at www.cityofweirton.com.
To be eligible for office, an individual must be at least 18 years of age, be a resident of Weirton, a registered voter, not declared mentall incompetant by a court of competent jurisdiction, and not be under conviction of treason, felony or bribery in an election.
The filing fee for the office of mayor is $100, with the council filing fee at $50.
Applications must be filed with the city clerk no later than noon Saturday. Those returned by mail must be complete and postmarked no later than Saturday.
The City Clerk's Office will be open during regular business hours: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Weirton's 2019 municipal primary election will be held April 2, with the general election on June 11.
