STEUBENVILLE -- City leaders celebrated the best of the 2018 Eastern Gateway Community College Sights and Sounds of Christmas: Nutcracker Dreams Parade, presenting them with -- what else -- nutcracker trophies.

Mayor Jerry Barilla applauded the efforts of the nearly 100 parade entries, adding the streets "were lined with people for many blocks."

"It was so nice to see the winners beaming with joy upon receiving their 2018 Collectible Nutcracker trophies," he said, pointing out it was the first time a band -- Harding Middle School -- had won an award.

"Also, two schools won for floats," Barilla added. "This was one of our largest parades, with some 96 participants coming from as far away as Coshocton."

Taking top spots in each category were:

¯ Best Float: First, Boy Scouts of America, Ohio River Valley Council; Second, Pugliese West Elementary; Third, Eastern Construction & Excavating Co.

¯ Best Non-Float: First, M&M True Value Hardware; Second, Harding Middle School Band; Third, Generations of Steppaz.

¯ Deep Well Energy Services, LLC, claimed the Grand Prize-Nutcracker Theme award, while the Wells Academy Community Kids took home the Mayor's Award.
