WEIRTON -- Filing is set to begin Monday for those interested in seeking elected office in the city of Weirton.
Weirton’s 2019 municipal primary election will be held April 2, with the general election on June 11. The candidate filing period begins Monday, and will continue through noon, Jan. 26.
Applications for the office of mayor and all seven city council seats will be available at the City Clerk’s Office inside the Weirton Municipal Building, or online at www.cityofweirton.com. The filing fee for mayor is $100, and for a council seat is $50.
Completed applications will be accepted at the City Clerk’s Office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as from 9 a.m. to noon, Jan. 19 and Jan. 26. Offices will be closed Jan. 21 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Applications also may be returned by mail, and must be complete and postmarked no later than Jan. 26 to be accepted.
