Crews continue work to restore power to area

WEIRTON -- Repair crews from MonPower continue their efforts to restore electricity to area residents and businesses affected by the weekend's wind storms.

As of this morning, 6,181 of MonPower's 528,790 customers in West Virginia remained without power, according to information obtained through the company's website. Of that, 223 customers were located in Brooke County, and 21 were in Hancock County.

In Brooke County, the majority of outages was reported in Wellsburg, where 162 still had no electricity Tuesday. In the remainder of the county, five customers were reported in Beech Bottom, 24 in Bethany, eight in Colliers, 17 in Follansbee and five or fewer in other areas such as Short Creek and Windsor Heights. In Hancock County, seven Weirton residents were still affected this morning, with nine in New Cumberland and five in Chester reported.

Full restoration is expected by 11 p.m. today, according to MonPower.
