WEIRTON -- Madonna High School will be weaving a tale as part of this year's musical production, which kicks off Friday night.
The school's drama club is set to present "Charlotte's Web -- The Musical," with performances set for 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in the Bill Barrett Gymnasium at the high school.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors, and will be available at the school or at the door prior to performances.
Based on the 1952 children's novel "Charlotte's Web," written by E.B. White, director Kelle Martin explained Madonna's musical production will be familiar to anyone who has read the book or seen any of its movie adaptations.
"A lot of the lines are actually from the book," Martin said
Bringing to life a cast of characters including Charlotte the spider, Wilbur the pig, Fern, Templeton the rat and numerous other barnyard animals, family and friends, the production will showcase a story of friendship and selflessness.
The musical score was composed by Charles Strouse, who, Martin explained, also did the music for numerous other productions, including "Bye Bye Birdie" and "Annie."
"We're going to have a full band," she noted.
The cast is comprised of students from Madonna and St. Joseph the Worker School, and includes Krista Velegol as Charlotte; Hannah Buterbaugh as Wilbur; Elyse Chartier as Fern; Mallorie O'Brien as Templeton; Sofia-Teresa DiBacco as Martha Arable and Goose; Chase Jenkins as John Arable; Tyler Dalfol as Homer Zuckerman; Jordan Dillon as Edith Zuckerman; Abby Macek as Lurvy, Reporter, Uncle and Nellie; Sydney Crawford as Sheep and Fair Queen; Lucia DiBacco as Avery Arable, Fair girl and Joy; Lacy Quering as Photographer, Judge, Conessionaire and Spectator; Ashton Blair as Fair Goer, Judge and Spectator; and Valentina DiBacco, Alivia Macek and Rowan Ymbert as the Goslings.
