WELLSBURG -- The Brooke County Board of Education, Monday, named a Wellsburg woman to head a volunteer committee to aid it in setting goals for the school district.
Paula Doll, a native of McKinleyville, was appointed the chair the school board's steering committee, a group that may suggest improvements to the school district, particularly to curricula aimed at preparing youth for the workforce.
Outlined by West Virginia Department of Education Policy 2510, such groups may be comprised of representatives of business, labor, higher education, economic development and school improvement councils and faculty senates.
Called for comment, Doll said, "I'm excited about being able to bring things together between the community and the board."
A 1991 graduate of Brooke High School, she has been employed as a nurse and consultant involved with clinical project management.
Doll said her work involves helping organizations to improve the way they do things to achieve greater efficiency and she regularly leads meetings to discuss such strategies.
She said she hopes the school board will fill the committee with people from various walks of life.
"Really getting people in there with diverse backgrounds and opinions is imperative," Doll said.
Board President Ted Pauls said the committee will help the board to form a closer connection to the community.
"I just want to hear what's on the minds of the people," he said.
