Parade to impact traffic

Motorists reminded to allow extra travel time

WEIRTON -- The Weirton Christmas Parade is set for Saturday, beginning at 6 p.m. along Main Street.

According to Police Chief Rob Alexander, no parking will be permitted on Main Street, from Virginia Avenue to Marland Heights Road, from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Vehicles parked in these areas will be towed at the owner's expense.

Traffic along this portion of Main Street will be closed down beginning at 5:15 p.m., lasting until the end of the parade. Officials recommend those participating in the parade be at their assigned spots early.

Motorized units will form up on North Main Street, with marching units assembling on Virginia Avenue and the parking area at the old Jimmy Carey Stadium site.

In addition, no parking will be permitted on Virginia Avenue at any time, and traffic on the street will be restricted to parade participants.

Traffic also will be restricted in the 3000 blocks of Elm and West streets, with only parade units and residents of those areas permitted. No traffic will be allowed from 5 p.m. until the end of the parade.

For those watching the parade, no one will be permitted in the street in front of the area designated for the television broadcast or the judge's booth in front of the Millsop Community Center.
