Traffic advisory issued for Saturday’s Light the Night
WEIRTON — As part of the city’s Light the Night tree lighting Saturday, Weirton officials have announced planned road closures leading up to and during the event.
Pennsylvania Avenue, from the intersection with Weir Avenue to Route 2, will be closed from 4:40 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Route 2, near the Pennsylvania Avenue intersection, will have a partial closure, reducing the road to two lanes with the flow of traffic maintained in both directions by the Weirton Police Department.
The Light the Night, organized by the city in conjuction with Renaissance Weirton, will begin at 6 p.m. at the intersection of Route 2 and Pennsylvania Avenue.
Activities will include performances by DeJaVu and the Hancock County Victorian Carolers, free refreshments provided by Granato’s Deli, Mike Larch and Son Heating and Cooling and Bubba’s Wings, popcorn from Cove Presbyterian Church, gifts for children, an appearance by Santa Claus, the lighting of the community Christmas tree and fireworks.
Beginning at 5 p.m., residents also will be able to bring donations of toys and non-perishable food items to stuff a Weirton police cruiser and firetruck which will be parked at Weirton Covenant Church.
Food donations will go to the Community Bread Basket, with toys going to the Salvation Army.
Roads will be reopened following the tree lighting.
