Michael D. McElwain HOLIDAY TREAT — Weirton officials are gearing up for this year’s Lunch With Santa event set to begin at 11 a.m. on Dec. 14. Helping to make plans were, from left, Coty Shingle, executive director of the Weirton Parks and Recreation Department; Deidra Edwards, HCSB Weirton branch manager; Tracie Cresap, HCSB Weirton teller supervisor; and Chris Krishak, program director for the Weirton Parks and Recreation Department.

WEIRTON — For a second year, Weirton officials will hold a Lunch With Santa event for children 10 and under.

“It’s an opportunity for the kids to have a free lunch and have a fun time meeting Santa,” Chris Krishak, program director with the Weirton Parks and Recreation Department, said.

Last year, 80 children took part, and Krishak hopes that more will take advantage of the opportunity this year.

“Everyone had a great time last year,” Krishak said.

Back again is Hancock County Savings Bank as the event sponsor.

“We love sponsoring family and children’s events for our community,” Deidra Edwards, HCSB Weirton branch manager, said. “Being a community bank, it is a wonderful day. We have sponsored this event for several years.”

According to Krishak, doors will open at 11 a.m., and the program will end at 1 p.m. on Dec. 14.

The lunch menu will include hot dogs, pizza, chips and a drink. Those participating also will get a candy cane coloring book and crayons to take home.

“Parents can bring a camera to take photos as well,” Krishak said.

Having the support of Hancock County Savings Bank is key, according to Krishak. “We need to thank them, because without that support, programs like this would not happen.”

Those interested should pre-register before Thursday by calling (304) 797-8520.
