July 27: Events canceled/postponed due to coronavirus

Due to the precautions being taken surrounding the coronavirus, the following changes have been made regarding events and meetings in the local area:

¯ The 2020 Ohio River Sweep has been postponed to 2021, and the date will be determined.

¯ The annual Teddy Bear Tea held in July at Mary H. Weir Public Library has been canceled. It will resume in July 2021.

¯ Mingo Community Days, normally held each July, has been canceled.

¯ The 203rd annual on-site Hollow Rock Campmeeting for July has been canceled.

¯ The 50th-annual Covered Bridge Festival that had been scheduled for Sept. 19-20 at eight locations across Washington and Greene counties in Pennsylvania, has been canceled.

¯ All remaining concerts in the Historic Fort Steuben Summer Concert Series have been canceled for 2020.

¯ The Toronto Coalition for Revitalization has decided to cancel the series of free concerts planned for the city’s gazebo commons area.

¯ The New Cumberland Fall Riverfest in September has been canceled.

¯ All military meetings for the Jefferson County Veterans Association have been canceled until the end of summer.

The cancellations include the annual Memorial Day service held at the Friendship Park Memorial Museum, where the World War II equipment is on display.

¯ The Steubenville Rotary Club has suspended its weekly Friday meetings until further notice.

¯ Perpetual adoration in the Portiuncula Chapel on the campus of the Franciscan University of Steubenville has been is suspended, but the chapel will remain open for prayer each day from 5 a.m. to midnight. The monstrance will not be exposed.

¯ The Thursday Toronto Senior Citizens meeting and trips have been canceled.

¯ The Public Employees Retirement Inc. Chapter 5, District 9 has canceled its July meetings.

¯ The Four Seasons Senior Citizens have canceled their meetings for the time being.

¯ The Chester-Newell Sportsmen Club has canceled all remaining spring turkey shoots.

¯ The Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church’s “Together” dinners on Wednesday are canceled until further notice.

¯ Visitation at the Jefferson County Jail has been suspended except for attorneys who are visiting their clients.

¯ All Steubenville city playgrounds and basketball courts remain closed.

¯ The Brooke County Courthouse has reopened to walk-ins but appointments are encouraged. Those without appointments may be required to wait.

¯ The Weirton Municipal Building is closed until further notice.

¯ The Mary H. Weir Public Library is closed until further notice, but some services are available by scheduling an appointment.

¯ Wintersville village offices have been closed.

¯ The board of directors of the Weirton Senior Center has decided to close the center until further notice. The Hancock Brooke Nutrition program is making frozen meals available to pick up at the senior center.
