Weirton Medical Center to reopen Pennsylvania Avenue COVID-19 testing facility
WEIRTON — Beginning Monday, Weirton Medical Center will be reopening its off-campus COVID-19 testing site, a decision hospital officials say is in response to an increase in demand for testing.
The outpatient testing site on Pennsylvania Avenue in Weirton will be available 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
“We want to make sure patients are aware that effective Monday, July 20, WMC will no longer be offering non-emergent COVID-19 testing at the current outdoor location on the WMC campus,” Kelli McCoy, the hospital’s director of communications, said. “With the huge increase in requests for testing, we cannot accommodate the volume at the current location.”
Patients wishing to receive a COVID-19 test at the outpatient site will require an order from a WMC Medical Staff physician in advance.
“Patients without an order from a WMC physician will not be able to obtain testing at this location,” McCoy said. “This is not a drive up location for unscheduled testing. We will provide information on any public testing sites as they are made available.”
McCoy further stated all test results will be forwarded to the patient’s physician as soon as they are received. Positive test results will be sent to the physician as well as the patients’ county health department.
Test results may take up to a week to become available, according to McCoy.
