A new monument was installed Monday at the Brooke-Hancock Veterans Memorial Park in Weirton. The monument is dedicated to the memories of James Robert Baker, a Weirton native, and Larry Wayne Cool, both of whom served on the U.S.S. Frank E. Evans during the Vietnam War. The Frank E. Evans was a U.S. Naval destroyer, which collided with the Royal Australian Navy light aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne on June 3, 1969 during exercises in the South China Sea. Seventy-four crew members from the Frank E. Evans were killed in the incident. A dedication for the memorial has been scheduled for Sept. 9. (Contributed photo)
