BETHANY -- Bethany College is taking a disciplined approach to COVID-19 with a new virtual lecture series that will explore the pandemic's effects on society.
The lectures are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays on Zoom during the fall semester. Alumni and parents of students can register at www.bethanywv.edu/event/covid-convocation-series/ to receive the Zoom link. Community members who are interested can watch the lectures live on the Bethany College Facebook page or later on YouTube.
The planned lectures are:
¯ Sept. 8: An Introduction on Viral Transmission and Vaccine Research by Carolyn Kitchens, assistant professor of chemistry.
¯ Sept. 15: Impact of the Pandemic on International Politics by Kayce Mobley, assistant professor of political science and chair of the Department of History and Political Science.
¯ Sept. 22: Acute and Post-Traumatic Response to Pandemic by Debra Hull, professor of psychology.
¯ Sept. 29: How diseases like COVID spread and how we take actions to mitigate it by Karen Kormuth, assistant professor of biology.
¯ Oct. 6: Visualization of Pandemic Data: What are we seeing? What does it mean? by Anna Edlund, associate professor and chair of the Department of Biology.
¯ Oct. 13: Media Framing of the Coronavirus Crisis by David DeIuliis, assistant professor of communications and media arts.
¯ Oct. 20: Roundtable discussion on the views for the pandemic from across the world involving our Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants and international students led by Harald Menz, director of international studies and professor of world languages.
¯ Oct. 27: Molecular Scale and Viral Transmission by Scott Brothers, assistant professor of chemistry.
¯ Nov. 10: Pandemics, Parties, and the Election of 2020 by Joe Lane, provost and dean of faculty.
¯ Nov. 17: Pandemics Past and Present by Ian Lanzillotti, assistant professor of history.
