School board to meet Thursday

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Board of Education will meet by teleconference at at 6 p.m. Thursday to consider hirings for the upcoming school year.

Government offices closed

Many government offices, including the Brooke County Public Library and Brooke County Senior Center, will be closed Monday for Labor Day.

Garbage pickup in Wellsburg will be delayed one day for the week, with Monday’s routes collected on Tuesday, Tuesday’s on Wednesday’s and so on.

Garbage pickup in Follansbee won’t be affected.

Roads to be closed for paving

The West Virginia Division of Highways has announced three roads in the Colliers-Weirton area will be closed next week for paving.

Cherry Lane will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 9 and Police Lodge and McCalls roads will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 10.

They will be open to emergency departments and school buses but no other through traffic will be permitted.

The work could be delayed by inclement weather or other circumstances.
