WEIRTON -- The Weirton Christian Center is in the process of starting a grief support group for children, in partnership with Never Alone WV.
Patti Barnabei, founder of Never Alone WV, recently presented $1,000 to assist in creating the program, called Never Alone Kids. It will support youth in Pre-K through high school who are grieving the loss of a parent, grandparent or any family member.
"We are working with Highmark Caring Place in Pittsburgh to learn how to best structure this program and hope to have our first meeting in October, after training this month," Kim Weaver, director of the Weirton Christian Center, said. "There will be a group for all the age groups from ages 4 to 18. Never Alone was a perfect partner, they already support grieving families and we already support children of all ages in our program."
Although a lead counselor is involved, Never Alone Kids will need many volunteers to help with projects, to serve food, and be a supportive adult in the groups.
Those interested in volunteering, or to sign up a child who needs support, are asked to call the Weirton Christian Center at (304) 748-2353, or email Kim@WeirtonChristianCenter.com.
"Never Alone supports a drug-free community, and if you have any questions in regards to wanting assistance with a drug problem, or connecting a loved one with the right program, contact me."
