WEIRTON -- Preparations to celebrate the holidays continue in the city of Weirton, with the launch of this year's Success in Unity ornament and plans for Christmas festivities in the city's downtown.
Both are being organized by Renaissance Weirton.
In its fourth year, the Success in Unity ornament was launched in 2017 to celebrate the city's 70th anniversary, as well as the various cultural and ethnic influences existing in the community. This year's ornament, celebrating the local Italian heritage, will join past ornaments depicting the countries of Scotland and Greece.
Renaissance Weirton also is planning a "Christmas on Main Street" celebration, to be held 2 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Nov. 21 in front of the Millsop Community Center.
The event will feature an open air market with food, crafts and other vendors, as well as a train ride and ice skating.
Those interested in ordering this year's Success in Unity ornament and picking them up during the "Christmas on Main Street" event, must have their order in by Nov. 16. The ornaments are $10 each, with the order form and payment either placed in the utility drop box and the Weirton Municipal Building, or mailed to Renaissance Weirton Corp., 200 Municipal Plaza, Weirton, WV 26062. Checks should be made out to Renaissance Weirton Corp.
