WELLSBURG --A Wellsburg police officer was injured after his vehicle struck a utility pole along state Route 2 Saturday evening.
Brooke County Sheriff Scott Adams said Tuesday Wellsburg Patrolman Kenneth Shuman was recovering at home from injuries sustained in the accident.
Adams said Shuman was traveling north on state Route 2 south of Cross Creek Road and lost control of his police cruiser near the Dollar General Market store, overturning twice and striking the pole.
It's not clear what caused Shuman to lose control of the vehicle, which was destroyed in the accident.
The sheriff said Shuman was going to assist a sheriff's deputy responding to a disturbance at a business on Main Street in Follansbee.
Shuman is one of two former deputies recently hired by the Wellsburg Police Department after their positions as school resource officers were cut.
