Crystal methamphetamine arrest made in Weirton

WEIRTON -- Another arrest has been made in Hancock County concerning the trafficking of crystal methamphetamine, according to an announcement by the Hancock-Brooke-Weirton Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force.

Eric Gregory Hughes, 28, was arrested Tuesday and charged with the felony offenses of distribution of crystal methamphetamine and possession with the intent to deliver crystal methamphetamine, following an investigation by the Task Force and the Weirton Police Department's Street Crimes Unit. According to information released by the Task Force Wednesday morning, the investigation into the drug trafficking in the Weirton area led to a search warrant issued for a residence on Elm Street in Weirton, and a subsequent search on Orchard Street in the city.

Officials announced a "substantial amount" of crystal methamphetamine was recovered during the investigation, as well as illegal firearms.

Hughes also is a wanted fugitive from Texas, according to the Task Force information. He currently is being held in the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail, with no bond information available as of Wednesday afternoon.

Last week, the Hancock County Sheriff's Department announced the arrest of six individuals in New Cumberland, also on charges related to the possession and distribution of crystal methamphetamine.
