Weirton Council, during its meeting Monday night, paid tribute to the life and service of former city Fire Chief Dean Allen, who died March 16 at the age of 88. Allen’s family, joined by some of his fellow former firefighters, were presented a plaque with the American flag and a certificate in his memory by Mayor Harold Miller. Taking part in the presentation were, from left, Ward 3 Councilman Fred Marsh, Allen’s son-in law, retired firefighters Ted Maslowski and Jeff Bertha, wife Catherine Allen, daughter Sue Marsh, great-grandson Colton Yenson and granddaughter Deanna Marsh. Allen also had been active with the former Weirton Heights Volunteer Fire Department, the Boy Scouts of America and Habitat for Humanity.
