Security guard faces sexual abuse charge

By WARREN SCOTT Staff writer 2 min read

WELLSBURG -- A Wellsburg man has been charged with the sexual abuse of a child in a case officials say isn't related to his position as a security guard working with Brooke County Schools.

According to court documents, Glenn A. Jones Sr., 69, of Wellsburg, has been charged with the sexual abuse of a child under 16 years of age who had been in his care.

Following preliminary hearings in Brooke County Magistrate Court, his case is pending in the First Judicial Circuit Court.

Jones is among Garretson Security guards employed with Brooke County Schools.

In a press release Friday, Stephanie Zimmer, communications director for Brooke County Schools, stated school officials have been working with the Brooke County Sheriff's Department regarding the arrest of a Garretson Security guard employed solely in directing traffic outside schools.

Zimmer didn't name the guard but said, "Upon the notification of the impending investigation by the Brooke County Sheriff's Department the guard was immediately relieved of all his traffic directing duties and access to all Brooke County Schools property.

"All charges against the offender indicate that none of the charged conduct occurred in or on any Brooke County Schools property. This contracted security guard was not actively assigned to any Brooke County Schools, as he served as a traffic guard. Nonetheless, all district and state procedures were expressly followed," she said.
