Chamber ‘mobbing’ area businesses
WEIRTON – Businesses in the Weirton area are getting mobbed.
At about noon, Friday, a group of shoppers came through the doors of the Best You Boutique in Weirton, looking to spend some cash and show support for the local business community. The “Cash Mob” is a new program launched by the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce.
“It’s been a rough year for everyone,” chamber President Brenda Mull explained. “We want everyone to realize the business community still needs our help.”
As part of the “Cash Mob,” the chamber will select a member business to visit, inviting individuals to arrive at a predetermined time and spend some money purchasing whatever item or product they might find of interest.
“Everybody’s heard of a ‘Flash Mob.’ We don’t dance,” Mull explained. “This is a ‘Cash Mob.’ We only ask they come in and purchase something.”
Approximately 15 people took part in Friday’s “Cash Mob,” and Mull said the plans are to hold a new one each month at a different business. Updates on the mobs and businesses visited will be available on the chamber’s Facebook page.
