Graduating seniors recognized at Rockefeller

NEW CUMBERLAND — The John D. Rockefeller IV Career Center honored 85 graduating seniors and completers, representing both Weir High School and Oak Glen High School, during a ceremony May 13.

The ceremony was dedicated to Gordon Anderson and Dee Rocchio, both of whom are retiring in June following years of service to the career center and Hancock County Schools.

Certificates were given to students for the number of hours each student accrued during their time in the JDRCC simulated workplace. Students receiving certificates included: Auto Collision Technology/Milt O’Mery, instructor, Dalton Barnes, Dennis Gallop, Alessandra Pugh, Logan Randolph, Mason Smith, Anthony Spano, Sebastian Yates, and Robert Wilson. Automotive Technology/Jeff Hardy and Gordon Anderson, instructors, Ryley Fletcher, Caleb Moore, Michael Provenzano, Malachi Stewart, Dakota Trimnel, Austin Almo, Chance McCullough, Austin Sayre, Shane Spencer, and Austin Virtue. Baking and Pastry/ Chef Steven Fuscardo, instructor, Isabella Elliott, Ellen Hartley, Aryel Kintyhtt, Adelynn Lawton, Maggie Lively, Tiffany May, Madison McDonald, Kiara Moore, Haylee Nixon, and Juliana Virden. ProStart Culinary/Chef Steven Fuscardo, instructor, Magan Barnhart, Chance Brennan, Camden Cunningham, Junah Drake, Kayden Gonzalez, Calil Howard, Daniel Kidder, James McDole, Aries Schmitt, Peyton Stan, Samantha Swidowski and Chloee Walker. Welding Technology/Jim Chappell, instructor, William Diamond, Shamus Gibson, Ethan Hooker, Matthew Jordan, Jackson Ketchum, Benjamin Morin, Kyler O’Connor, Chantz Reed-Dopudja, Clayton Tanner and Robert Whitlach.

Students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society. The NTHS honors student achievement and leadership in Career and Technical Education. The students inducted included Thomas Babinchak, Landon Beatty, Marshall Campbell, Gabrielle Cardell, Wade Cunningham, Tylin Fawcett, Alex Fish, Gage Geer, Shamus Gibson, Jacob Gittings, Randall Guthrie, Ryley Fletcher, Ellen Hartley, Ethan Hooker, Matthew Jordan, Aryel Kintyhtt, Kaitlynn Lamp, Adeynn Lawton, Haylie Lemmon, Maggie Lively, Chance McCullough, Madison McDonald, Jordan Morris, Christopher Nall, Haylee Nixon, Kyler O’Connor, Evan Peleskey, Cody Petrella, Tristan Pulver, Bailey Rager, Chantz Reed-Dopudja, Shane Renfro, Myles Rice, Samantha Swidowski, Asyan Treadway, Juliana Virden, Austin Virtue, and Sebastian Yates.

The WV Governor’s Workforce Credential was created to ensure that West Virginia’s developing workforce has industry ready skills to meet high quality business and industry expectations. The WV Governor’s Workforce Credential allows employers to quickly identify those potential employees for first-rate job openings. Karissa Poszywak, JDRCC assistant principal, presented certificates to the following students with this achievement: Shamus Gibson, Tylin Fawcett, Keely Powell and Bailey Rager. Poszywak also presented Perfect Attendance Certificates to students who had perfect attendance throughout the 2020-2021 school year. Those students receiving this recognition were Chance McCullough, Alex Fish, Kaitlynn Lamp and Adelynn Lawton. Several scholarships and awards were given during the ceremony.

The Outstanding Achievement Award is given to a student who has exceeded all the requirements of his or her respective program. Those recipients were: Auto Collision Technology – Logan Randolph, Automotive Technology – Austin Sayre, Baking and Pastry – Isabella Elliott and Juliana Virden, Carpentry – Thomas Babinchak, Diesel Technology – Randall Guthrie, Graphic Design- Gabrielle Cardell, Health Science Education – Bailey Rager, Pro Start Culinary – James McDole, and Welding Technology – Shamus Gibson.
