FOLLANSBEE -- After a year away, Follansbee Community Days made a triumphant return over the weekend.
After kicking off on Friday, community days featured a parade, which was grand marshaled by localbusinessman Scott Ewuskiak and featured the WVU Mountaineer mascot, on Saturday and a bike and cars show and fireworks display by Zambelli to close with a bang on Sunday.
All three days of festivities included food vendors and live music in the Community House lot.
Among them were Carla and Dana Davis of Double Dee's Double Delicious BBQ of Wellsburg, who were looking forward to their first year at the festival.
Dana said she and her husband started the business three years ago and were among many impacted by the pandemic last year when many public events were canceled.
"We tried to do as much as we could," she said, adding, "This was aways a dream of his. He was always at the grill cooking for family."
Also on hand was Janet Thompson of Janet's Gellato of Wintersville, a Community Days regular who sells the frozen Italian treat in a variety of flavors, many of them from scratch.
Thompson said chocolate is her most popular flavor, with peanut butter and whitehouse tying for second, though many Italians enjoy her gellato incorporating the flavors of tiramisu, another traditional treat.
"This event has always been really good for us and I love it," said Thompson.
Another regular is Monica Rotellini of Moe's on Main, who sells an assortment of decorative items hand made by many area crafters at her Follansbee store.
"We brought crafts for all seasons so people will know what we have," she said.
Sunday's car show was named to honor the late Howard "Howdy" Verner, a long-time supporter of Community Days and of Follansbee.
Part of the event also featured free swimming at the city pool for three hours on Saturday afternoon.
Residents lined the streets, with tents, lawn chairs and coolers for the parade, holding gatherings throughout the community.
