WEIRTON -- The Weirton Christmas Parade, organized by the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce, will kick off at 6 p.m. Saturday, with a theme of "Weirton Wonderland."
The Weirton Police Department will have officers stationed at intersections along the Main Street parade route beginning at 5 p.m., with traffic closed at 5:30 p.m.
According to information released by Police Chief Charlie Kush, traffic patterns will include
Northbound lanes on Main Street will be shut down at Lemoyne and Main Street. Traffic will travel on Lemoyne to the Marland Heights and Lemoyne intersection.
Officers will be directing traffic at the intersection having through traffic travel north onto West Street to Virginia Avenue.
Vehicles will then be directed east on Virginia Avenue to Main Street where they will continue north on Main Street. During the parade, Virginia Avenue will be closed until the parade is completed. Southbound lanes on Main Street will be closed at the Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue intersection.
Traffic needing to travel south will be rerouted to Weir Avenue and Cove Road, then directed east onto Cove Road to U.S. 22.
Eastbound traffic on Cove Road will be closed at the Weir Avenue and Cove Road intersection. Traffic traveling east on Cove Road will be rerouted north on Weir Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue, then to Main Street in order to continue north on state Route 2.
Signage will be posted on U.S. 22 advising of the closures to Main Street.
