WELLSBURG -- Cases against two local men charged with murder will continue following separate hearings held Monday in 1st Judicial Circuit Court.
Halley Allen Wayne Gill, 28, of Wintersville, entered a not guilty plea to the charge and others filed against him in connection with the Feb. 11 fatal shooting of 40-year-old Charles Jule Suter.
Gill appeared for a preliminary hearing following his indictment by a Brooke County grand jury last week for murder, attempted burglary, possession of a firearm following a conviction prohibiting from having one and three counts of wanton endangerment.
According to the Brooke County Sheriff’s Department, Gill fired shots in the direction of three bystanders at Suter’s Colliers home.
Since his first appearance in Brooke County Magistrate Court, Gill has been held in the Northern Regional Jail without bond. On Monday, 1st Judicial Circuit Court Judge Ronald Wilson agreed to set a bond of $100,000 for Gill on the condition that if it’s posted, he be placed on home confinement with a GPS monitor while awaiting his day in court.
Gill is slated to return to the court for a pre-trial conference on March 29.
Also appearing before the judge was Jeffrey Allen White, 27, of Weirton, who faces charges of murder and burglary for allegedly entering the Wellsburg home of 69-year-old Daniel Gilchrist through a window and beating and killing him on Feb. 20, 2021.
White has been held in the Northern Regional Jail since his indictment last year.
Slated to undergo an evaluation this month to determine his mental competency to stand trial, he is scheduled to return for a status hearing on May 23.
